Honours Bachelor of Arts, Visual Studies

Our innovative Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA), Visual Studies program provides instruction in studio practice combined with critical discourse involving all aspects of contemporary visual culture, through lectures, seminars, and field trips.

The foundation lecture course, VIS120H (Visual Concepts),  investigates a wide range of topics situated in modernism and post-modernism, while VIS130H (Visual Strategies) stresses the formulation and communication of visual ideas through studio practice. Both foundation courses rigorously prepare students for interdisciplinary perspectives on art practice and discourse in the upper-level courses, and both are prerequisites for all upper year visual studies courses, all of which have a studio component.
