-

Room 229, North Borden Building, 563 Spadina Crescent

This presentation will begin with a brief overview of ways in which recent exhibitions have explored the urban roots of modern artistic culture, and will lead to a consideration of techniques used by artists in Toronto in order to depict local experience.

Working as artist, curator, and writer, Luis Jacob's diverse practice addresses issues of social interaction and the subjectivity of aesthetic experience. Recent solo exhibitions include: "A finger in the pie, A foot in the door, A leg in quicksand", Kunsthalle Lingen; "The Eye, The Hole, The Picture", McCord Museum; and "Pictures at an Exhibition", Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art.  Recent group exhibitions include the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York); Generali Foundation (Vienna); Kunsthalle Bern (Switzerland); Contemporary Art Museum (Houston); and documenta12 (Kassel).
