Innis College & the Urban Studies Program invite you to a panel discussion, in partnership with the Department of Geography & Planning, the Martin Prosperity Institute, and the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design.

Celebrated urbanist and visionary Jane Jacobs continues to influence urban theory and practice globally, but her impact is perhaps most pronounced and embedded in Toronto city-building. This year marks the 100th centennial of her birth, and given that she lived in Toronto for over 40 years we are turning our minds to Good City? Toronto Tensions: Exploring the Legacy of Jane Jacobs. This lively panel debate is part of Jane100 and brings together urbanists representing an array of disciplines at the University of Toronto.

Whether through their research, teaching or advocacy work, panelists will respond to the questions:

• What is the legacy of Jane Jacobs’ work in your field?
• In what ways does Toronto embody or reject her ideals and how does this both benefit and challenge our urban environment?
• What do you think Jane either got wrong or people get wrong about Jane?

We hope you can join us for what promises to be an engaging conversation about how we can adapt critical perspectives from our various fields to explain the meaning, impact, and legacy of Jane Jacobs’ work and ideas for architecture, public health, urban planning, urban studies and more.

Panelists include Erica Allen Kim (Daniels Faculty), Paul Hess (Geography & Planning), Richard Florida (Rotman), Patricia O’Campo (Dalla Lana), and Michael Piper (Daniels Faculty).
