-
Room 215, 1 Spadina Crescent
This lecture is open to the public and registration is not required.
The way in which we perceive the built environment—visually, thermally, spatially, and emotively—influences the utilization and sustainability of spaces. This talk presents four years of research from Alstan Jakubiec and the Design for Climate and Comfort lab at the Singapore University of Technology and Design focusing on human factors in sustainable design. The talk is broadly grouped into 5 topics: data-driven design, human factors in lighting, urban sustainability, design projects & student collaborations, and software development. In addition teaching results integrating data-driven and cutting edge sustainable design processes in the classroom are showcased.
Alstan Jakubiec is an assistant professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) where he leads the Design for Climate and Comfort lab. He holds a PhD in Building Technology from MIT as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architectural design. Alstan teaches courses on architectural energy, lighting, and sustainable urban design at SUTD, and he is the chair of the Architecture and Sustainable Design PhD program. His research expertise relates to daylighting, visual and thermal comfort, urban design, and data communication for sustainable design. In addition to teaching and research, Alstan develops the DIVA-for-Rhino sustainable design tool for energy and daylight analysis, which has been downloaded over 50,000 times and is used by practitioners, educators and students around the world.
