How to Design an Elephant
ARC465H1 F1
Instructor: Adrian Phiffer
Meeting Section: L0102
Fall 2024
The elephant is outside, large enough to be a house. - The seemingly absurd thought wants to evoke a certain contemporary desire to inhabit the others’ view and to provoke its subsequent architecture image. In this seminar, we will engage with the concept of outside. We will spend most of our time out of the classroom. We will observe and participate in existing situations from where we will learn and develop descriptions of architecture that are specific and terrestrial. We will challenge the abstraction of our design thinking and conceive methods of representation and design that address the physical reality and political ecology of a building.
