Laptop Requirements

Recommended Laptop Specifications

Laptop specifications are for those who are choosing to purchase a new laptop and need guidance on which specifications to go with. Laptops must meet the minimum hardware and software requirements outlined below.

  • CPU: Intel i5/i7 or AMD Ryzen 5/7 processor 3+ GHz or higher. ARM Processors are not supported.
  • Display: 1920x1080 with True Color or better
  • Memory: 16GB or better
  • GPU: Nvidia or AMD GPU with 4GB VRAM or higher, DirectX 12 and OpenGL 4.1 compliant
  • Storage: 256GB SSD or higher

Recommended Laptops for CAD and 3D Modeling

CPU: We highly recommend a multi-core CPU, ideally the 6-core 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processors. You can get a 4-core processor as well if your CAD workflow is light to medium. The laptops with Intel i5 processors can also be used for CAD, but with quad-core or Hexa-core CPUs. (dual-cores are considered to be very weak to handle CAD applications).

GPU: It’s important to have a reasonably capable Graphics card. Nvidia Quadro @ AMD Radeon Pro series graphics cards are powerful enough to smoothly run most CAD software.

RAM: Memory is an important component, especially if you work on multiple files at once. For 3D modelling and rendering, at least 16GB of RAM is necessary and if you have to deal with more advanced workloads then you may need 32 or 64GB of RAM.

Storage: For storage, SSD is recommended for high-speed read/write. Make sure it’s at least 512GB.

Display: The display of the laptop should be glare-resistant with comfortable viewing angles. We recommend an IPS display with full HD or 4K resolution.
