21.10.13 - Tom Bessai and RAD Lab featured in conference on computation in architecture

The Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) is an international network of digital design researchers and professionals. The annual conference facilitates critical investigations into the role of computation in architecture, planning, and building science. This year’s conference is entitled Adaptive Architecture and is being held at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture in Cambridge, Ontario. The conference will bring together the spectrum of research and creative practices currently occurring within the ACADIA community.

The University of Toronto's Tom Bessai will be presenting his paper entitled "Bending-Active Bundled Structures: Preliminary Research and Taxonomy Towards an Ultra-Light Weight Architecture of Differentiated Components" on Thursday October 24. This paper will be one of forty papers selected by approximately one hundred jury members in a double-blind peer reviewed jury process, all presented in open plenary sessions featuring active discussion and debate with the audience.

Also at the ACADIA conference will be the University of Toronto's RAD Lab featured as part of the Visiting Research Team Exhibits.

Keynote Speakers of the event are,
Michelle Addington Yale/YSOA Hines Professor of Sustainable Architectural Design
Cristiano Ceccato Associate, Zaha Hadid Architects
Stephen Gage UCL/The Bartlett Professor of Innovative Technology

The conference will be held October 24-26.
