19.04.18 - Shane Williamson and Maria Denegri among recently announced 2018 RAIC Fellows

Daniels Faculty Associate Professor Shane Williamson and Lecturer Maria Denegri are among the 2018 Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) Fellows announced this week, and will be inducted at the College of Fellows Convocation during the RAIC/AANB Festival of Architecture in Saint John May 30 - June 2.

RAIC bestows Fellowship to RAIC members in recognition of outstanding achievement. Criteria include design excellence, exceptional scholarly contribution, or distinguished service to the profession or the community.

Williamson is the director of the Daniels Faculty's Master of Architecture program and principal of Williamson Williamson Inc., a Toronto-based architecture and design studio that he founded with his partner, Betsy Williamson, in 2007. His research and creative practice employs advanced digital tools as a means to critically engage traditional modes of construction and tectonic expression. His ongoing research seeks to situate digital fabrication and wood construction in a broader cultural context and link theories of design and technology respective of sustainable building strategies.

Denegri teaches architectural design and representation studios at the Daniels Faculty, where she has taught at all levels since 2002. In 2008, after fifteen years of design and production experience gained in very diverse urban environments including Los Angeles, Barcelona and Vancouver, she established her own firm, Denegri Bessai Studio, with partner Tom Bessai. Denegri is Chair of the Toronto Society of Architects, where she has served on the executive since 2012.

Representing about 5,000 members the RAIC advocates for excellence, promotes responsible architecture, and works to demonstrate how design enhances quality of life and addresses important societal issues.
