Itinerant Pods, an installation by North Design Office — the firm of Daniels Faculty Professors Pete North and Alissa North — is now on display in the heart of Montreal’s historic district. The free installation runs from July 3 to October 13 on Place De La Dauversière between the Château Ramezay and Place Jacques-Cartier, across from Montréal’s City Hall.

The spherical forms of brushed aluminium tubes, evoking a herd of futurists beasts gathering in pasture, are part of the 6th edition of Métis-sur-Montréal, presented by the Château Ramezay – Museum and Historic Site of Montreal and Reford Gardens.

The gentle presence of the spherical forms encourage passers-by to pause and appreciate the green oasis around them. Over the seasons, the installation’s connection to surrounding elements intensifies through a play of shadows, textures, and reflections, providing an ideal place for conversation, a meditative stroll, a picnic with friends, or a festive celebration.

Founded by Pete and Alissa North, North Design Office is a Toronto-based landscape architecture, urbanism, and design firm that has garnered several prizes across Canada and the United States.

Itinerant pods started as a project in Clevland Ohio in 2007, where it stood on display for 3 years. Since then it has also been installed in the lupine filed of Redford Gardens located at the beginning of the Gaspé Peninsula (pictured above).
