"Take time to find the right balance between academics and life. Although academics and acquiring new knowledge is important and should be one of your top priorities, it should not be the only thing you care about. University is a great time to grow and gain new experiences. To make the most of your university career get involved, especially within the Daniels Faculty community. Make time for yourself and get out of your comfort zone! Follow the Architecture and Visual Studies Student Union (AVSSU) Facebook page to stay connected with events being hosted where you can meet other students. Or find a club or sport that you are passionate about and join it. It may be intimidating at first but you’ll meet some amazing people and find your place within the University.” -Marienka Bishop-Kovac's advice for new Daniels Faculty undergrad students Marienka is going into her second year in the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies program and is pursuing a major in Architecture, a minor in French and a minor in Urban Studies. She is the Events Coordinator for the Architecture and Visual Studies Students Union (AVSSU) and is an Orientation Coordinator for this year’s Frosh week, taking place Sept. 8-11, 2015. "Explore this city. This city - like most - is full of wonder. I might have grown up here, but I'm still discovering new places and new histories. Explore this campus. Go beyond the walls and classes of the Daniels Faculty. Look for new and unfamiliar communities of knowledge and practice. You never know what you might learn or who you might meet. All of your new encounters will challenge and enrich your life, your studies, and your work in ways you can't yet imagine." –Elise Hunchuck’s advice for new Daniels Faculty undergrad students Elise is a graduate student in the Master of Landscape Architecture program and President of the Graduate Architecture, Landscape, and Design Student Union (GALDSU). “Many new students are surprised by how challenging university-level academic work is compared with secondary education even if they grew up speaking English. The Writing Centre offers one-on-one and small group consultations to help students develop their communication skills and create effective strategies for completing their course assignments.” –Erica S. Allen-Kim’s advice for new Daniels Faculty undergrad students Erica is an Assistant Professor at the Daniels Faculty and runs the Writing Centre – a great resource for students looking for help with their writing skills: daniels.utoronto.ca/resources/writing-centre #DanielsFrosh #DanielsFaculty #startuoft #UofT Share your advice using hashtag #AdviceforNewStudents
