A group of 60 scholars and scientists across Canada’s 10 provinces, have joined forces under the umbrella Sustainable Canada Dialogues (SCD), to identify key actions that will help Canada successfully transition to a low-carbon society. Their goal: to increase public debate on climate policy in advance of the upcoming Federal election and the December 2015 climate summit in Paris.

Assistant Professor Liat Margolis, director of the Daniels Faculty’s award winning Green Roof Innovation Testing Laboratory (GRIT Lab), is part of SCD’s Scientific Committee, and worked with a SCD subgroup to research and develop policies in the areas of cities and transportation.

SCD will unveil its climate action position paper at the 2015 Americana International Trade Show on Environmental Technologies, on Wednesday March 18, 2015 in Montréal (where half the SCD scholars — including Margolis — will be present). The tradeshow organizers join SCD in recognizing that an urgent transition to a low-carbon society will offer Canadians opportunities for innovation, new technology and employment.

Following a panel entitled “Climate Action: Time for Dialogue and Innovation” and an exchange among several of the document’s authors, the Ambassador of France to Canada, Mr. Nicolas Chapuis, will preview of the critical issues to be discussed at the 2015 Paris Climate Summit. Media representatives will have an opportunity to meet and interview the SCD scholars during the 10:00 am coffee break.
