31.03.08 - Michael Sargent (MArch '07) thesis wins two awards at UofT Film Festival

"Terminus," 2007 al&d graduate Michael Sargent's architectural thesis, walked away with best experimental film and best picture awards at the 2008 U of T film festival. This accomplishment demonstrates a dexterity that architectural students (and architects) bring to bear upon broader culture at large. The UT film board is also sending 'Terminus' to be considered for the Student Film Showcase, which is a screening of the best shorts from Canadian film schools

"Terminus" was the architectural thesis of Michael Sargent, and endured some controversy due to its deployment of time-based media as it's presentation format. Assembled of GIS mapping and digital architectural models montaged into actual on site video taped by Michael, the sophisticated editing, smooth experience, and innovative media left many critics at a loss for words. A rich and layered film, it bears repeated viewing as temporal layers of termini - a place of both arrival and departure - transcend the limitations of conventional architectural representation and engage the viewer in an expanded cognitive realm.
