Alumnus James AV Bligh (MArch 2014) has been named one of five jury members who will select this year’s Architectural Institute of BC (AIBC) Architectural Awards. The AIBC Architectural Awards are presented every two years, showcasing innovation and excellence in architecture around the province of British Columbia. Bligh is the only Intern Architect to serve on the deciding body. Other distinguished jury members include:

  • Jack Kobayashi Architect AIBC, Kobayashi + Zedda Architects, President (jury chair)
  • Norm Shearing Architect AIBC, Dockside Green Ltd., President
  • Gilbert Larocque, P.Eng., LLB, Associate Director, Professional Practice, Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (APEGBC)
  • Frances Bula, journalist, blogger

The 2016 AIBC Architectural Award winners will be announced as part of the 2016 AIBC Annual Conference on May 18, 2016 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Earlier this year, a model made by Bligh for his thesis project was included in the Museum of Vancouver’s exhibition Your Future Home: Creating the New Vancouver. The model of Vancouver’s downtown peninsula was fabricated in monochrome to illustrate the “homogeneic” tendencies of developer culture in the area. The exhibition ran from January 21 to May 15.
