08.12.15 - Luminato commissions PARTISANS to #TurnOnTheHearn
“Every architecture student, architect, and urbanist in Toronto has probably dreamt about what the Hearn could be,” writes Jörn Weisbrodt, the artistic director of the Luminato Festival. “In 2016 Luminato will turn on the Hearn.”
The festival has commissioned PARTISANS — founded by Daniels Faculty Lecturer Alex Josephson — to help transform the industrial landmark into temporary arts centre “three times larger than the Tate Modern." The decommissioned electrical generating station is one of the largest industrial re-use spaces in the country.
“It will be amazing,” says Josephson.
In related news, last month, Josephson won the RBC DX Emerging Designer Award.
“With an impressive roster of awards an honours to his credit, including the OAA Best Emerging Practice Award and a shortlist mention at the recent World Architecture Festival in Singapore, Josephson and his firm continue to put Canada on centre stage in the international design community,” writes Canadian Architect about the win.
Recent projects by PARTISANS include the Grotto Sauna, Bar Raval, and the Union Station Revitalization.
