25.10.11 - Daniels graduate Przemyslaw Latoszek receives 3rd prize in the Next Generation category at the Holcim Awards
Professor Mason White wasn’t the only member of the Daniel’s Faculty to receive a Holcim Award last week in Washington DC. Recent Daniels graduate Przemyslaw Latoszek also received third prize in the Next Generation category for his thesis work “Another Side of Concrete.” Przemyslaw’s thesis, which investigated the use of foam concrete, was completed under the supervision of Professor David Lieberman.
”The jury
recognizes the broad approach to the seemingly only pragmatic and business
related question of material science and concrete production in particular,” wrote
the jury of Przemyslaw’s project on the Holcim Awards website. “In a clear
manner the project extends into a number of parameters beyond its own
discipline to explain the wide impact of the issue – the social, financial and
environmental dimension. Even though the
concept of magnetic formwork was questioned, the research on the application proves
a high degree of transferability and the potential for an effect on the aesthetics
in the built environment.”
David Lieberman and Asscociate Fiona Lim Tung, a Daniels MArch graduate,
were also guests of the Holcim foundation at last week's awards.
They were joined by previous Gold Award winner for Africa/Middle East Aziza Chaouni. David Lieberman is
advising Hoclim on the expansion on its program in Canada. In previous years, Canadian
practitioners were recognized for a number of significant projects that have
been built or are in the early stages of development.
