Dub Studios, the office of Assistant Professor Michael Piper and his partners Natalya Kashper and Gabriel Sandoval, recently received a Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for its renovation of and addition to the Brecht Residence in Los Angeles. In renovating the historic family home, the studio worked closely with Los Angeles’ landmark commission to connect a new building to the original house.

“Though the addition is understated in front, in back it is enlivened by glass walls that connect it to outdoor dining and living areas, lush landscaping and a pool,” writes the Los Angeles Times. “The floor-to-ceiling glass is a modern juxtaposition to the more traditional exterior of the Brecht house.”
