The course project was a collaboration between Denegri Bessai Studio and graduate students at al&d. DBStudio is an experimental design practice that combines design-based research with teaching and architectural practice. The studio regularly conducts and participates in cross-disciplinary collaborations and focuses on innovations in design technology. al&d graduate student participation in the IDS08_prototype competition was attendant to an advanced digital design seminar, ARC 3024: Evolutionary Computation led by Tom Bessai at the faculty in the fall 2007 term. A selection of the chair prototypes were manufactured for exhibition in the 2008 Interior Design Show, Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto February 21-24.
