04.10.16 - Professor Aziza Chaouni Leads U of T at UN Climate Change Conference

Taking place from November 7-18 in Marrakech, Morocco, Associate Professor Aziza Chaouni has been nominated to lead the UofT Delegation in meetings and conferences which will influence important conclusions regarding global climate change and the upcoming ratification of The Paris Agreement.

Known formally as COP22, the Conference of Parties is heading into its 22nd year after having begun in 1995 as the UN’s framework convention on climate change. This year, the conference agenda is focused on enhancing efforts and promoting implementation of measures against climate change, with particular support being envisioned for developing countries, and states most vulnerable to climate change.

Aziza Chaouni is well-recognized for her work on sustainable design and has received multiple accolades in recognition of her efforts. Most notably, she is an awardee of the Global Holcim Gold Award in Sustainable Construction. At Daniels, she leads Design Ecological Tourism (DET), a research platform focused on developing innovations towards sustainable and ecologically low-impact forms of tourism.
