Professor Alissa North has published Greenfield Burb Pickering, a book that documents the student work created in an Option Studio held in 2010.

The students in this studio looked at innovative landscape strategies for greenfield suburban development. The goal of studio was to examine sites and design landscape frameworks for development that would build on the existing landscape system. Members of the studio began by analyzing models from nature and adapting them to the development of the site. Forward-looking and extreme designs were encouraged to provide the freedom to imagine entirely self-sufficient communities.
