Astrid Nielsen

Sessional Lecturer

Astrid has been a registered professional forester since 2001 and has been teaching the urban forestry field course at the University of Toronto for the last three years. She enjoys interacting and learning from students during this intensive, two-week program, where students visit host municipalities around the GTA, Ottawa, and Montreal to learn about urban forest management. Astrid also runs her own forestry consulting business, Dendron Forestry Services, and is general manager of the Eastern Ontario Model Forest (EOMF), a not-for-profit organization that promotes sustainable forest management to forest owners, managers, and the general public. Prior to this, Astrid worked at the city of Ottawa for seven years and in forestry consulting across Ontario and British Columbia. She was also president of the Ontario Professional Forester’s Association in 2015 and 2016. Astrid lives in Ottawa and in her spare time enjoys spending time outdoors, swimming, skiing, and making maple syrup.
