Architectural Design Studio 6: Research Studio – ARC3016
PROJECT SUBURB 3: Territorial Towers
This studio is based on the premise that the modernist tower sites that front Hurontario Street in Mississauga will be particularly difficult to transform into a typical street-wall urban form, given the depth of the sites and size of the towers. After completing a typological analysis and design proposal for the downtown portion of Hurontario Street, students will develop selected tower sites in greater detail.
This studio will be coordinated through the PROJECT SUBURB Research Group, now being formed at the Daniels Faculty. A multi-disciplinary project, the studio was run in parallel with a studio in the Geography and Planning department being taught by Paul Hess. Supported by ERA Architects, who have been key leaders in researching and promoting tower renewal strategies and policies in Toronto and the region, the studio invited engagement from planners and urban designers from the City of Mississauga and the private sector.
