Caleigh MacDonald, “Intersect”
Project Description
Intersect, a project by Master of Architecture student Caleigh MacDonald, explores the intersection of volumes as a means to create space and inform circulation. The five-storey building consists of two volumes that overlap, their orientations determined by the angles of the site as well as access to northern light. Within the space created by the intersection is a central core that conceals elevators, washrooms and storage closets. This core is then wrapped on one side by a public stair that conforms to the boundaries of the intersection. The angles of this intersection also establish two circulation axes that extend the length and width of the building, informing windows on the facade and sheer walls throughout the building.
