Design Studio 4 – ARC314

This is the final studio course offered to students in the architectural studies program. It draws upon the knowledge that was acquired in the previous lectures, representation and studio courses, and consolidated conceptual and technical skills. In addition, it introduced sustainable practices in architectural design, basic principles of structure, and rudimentary notions of landscape architecture. The studio focused on the creation and integration of a public market around the Bloor GO station, located in The Junction neighbourhood. The market intended to not only serve The Junction neighbourhood at large and enhance the Green Line Parkway that is adjacent to the Bloor GO station, but also intended to host a small Center for Asylum Seekers. In this project, students investigated different infrastructural systems currently existing around the site (train, bike, bus, pedestrian pathways etc..) and reimagined both the train station and market typologies as catalysts for The Junction neighbourhood and for the integration of newly arrived refugees in Toronto.
