Liane Werdina, "An Archive of Memories, Washed Away"
The Turkish state has recently celebrated the completion of hydroelectric power stations, projected along the southern Tigris River, as objects of progress and sustainability. Consequently, this same infrastructure has led to a forced displacement of Indigenous local Kurdish people, submerging the land that for centuries, has held Kurdish histories, culture, flora, and fauna.
This project seeks to subvert the Turkish state’s colonial displays of progress, through world expositions and acts of preservation, to protest on behalf of the Kurds of Hasankeyf. Through countering these objects of progress, it can uncover the sacrificed history that is buried within them.
