Transition and Connection: Designing Border Space Identity

Due to the increasing bilateral cooperation and growing tourism between China and Vietnam, the current Dongxing and Móng Cái Border Stations and the bridge between them have reached capacity. This thesis project focuses on the redevelopment of the border station complex. It proposes a new, symbolic infrastructure for the border station that not only provides a better user experience but also stimulates the whole region. It explores how architecture can represent the border’s identity of transition and connection, foster a stronger civic identity, and create a new monument for the cities.
