Unboxing the Stockyards

Unboxing the Stockyards, located in the historically industrialized meatpacking district along St. Clair West in Toronto, challenges typical strategies of density developments and eliminates the monofunctional use of conventional surface parking. By raising questions about how and if groupings of big box stores can survive in rapidly densifying areas, a solution is found by implementing designs that incorporate exiting commercial programs into mixed use and highly functional buildings. Placing less design emphasis on parked vehicles and more on people-orientated spaces creates a vibrant and inspiring community.
