The University Campus – From Microcosm to Model

A university campus can be a microcosm of its urban context. The university campus is typically and rightly at the forefront of political and social thought, and serves as an incubator for innovation. This thesis employs the urban campus of York University in Toronto as a laboratory that investigates solutions to design problems facing the urban landscape and its ecology — with the intention of learning from, and implementing these designs at the city scale. The potential for learning should not be limited to classrooms, but ought to extend into the landscape and surrounding context.
