Disturbing the Peace
"Disturbing the Peace" aims to challenge the conventional role of public space. Economic and socio-political conditions afford privileged access to public space for some members of society, while others are disenfranchised by systems of control that enforce this established order. It’s proposed that an alternative order exists within the marginal spaces of the city and beneath the public consciousness. An atlas of such spaces documents Toronto’s marginal landscape, while selected sites are used to test and explore strategies that enable access and support new perceptions of public space.
