The Transcribed Landscape
This thesis explores a people-focused design process that, rather than replacing the housing stock and building materiality through redevelopment, uses landscape thinking to revitalize a disengaged and disinvested neighborhood. The design proposal is meant to be a transcription of the invisible abrasive landscape, recognizing both its history and the influence of inhabitants to create meaningful spaces that are valued by the community. The neighborhood-scale design intervention functions as a catalyst for larger networks and initiatives that both feed into and benefit from a growing cultural, social, economic, and physical landscape system.
