Project Description

Master of Architecture graduate student Tala Alatassi’s thesis project “Majales” (Assembly in Arabic) proposes a post-traumatic rehabilitation exploration of the city of Douma, Syria, which was heavily shelled and looted during the ongoing conflict there, leaving many displaced with a lack of resources. 

The project involves using locally sourced salvaged material in a modular way to enclose the voids in the facades of ruins to create more dignified temporary shelters for displaced Syrians.
