Yutong Zhao, “Micro Density: Growth and Preservation Through Small Fabric Infill”
Project Description
Master of Urban Design graduate student Yutong Zhao’s thesis project, “Micro Density: Growth and Preservation Through Small Fabric Infill,” focuses on Reggae Lane in Toronto’s Little Jamaica, which often hosts temporary events and is home to murals that highlight the culture of the community.
The design begins by researching the existing built form, defining which buildings need protection and which can increase density. Based on the research, it proposes an incremental process for infill, imagining alternative scenarios for building density over time.
