Next Steps

1. Accept your offer

Your official Offer of Admission letter is available through the Admissions Application.

To confirm your acceptance, please sign and submit within the Admission Application. After you have accepted your offer in writing your next step is to submit your $1,000 (CAD) deposit to ACORN by May 1, 2024.

Not sure if your deposit was received? Log in to ACORN to view your Financial Account. If your offer is conditional, please arrange to have all necessary documentation sent to us directly.

2. Obtain your TCard

You can obtain your U of T student card (TCard) beginning May 1. Once you receive your student card you can activate your UTORid and your U of T email account. Following registration, email correspondence will be sent exclusively to your UTmail account. Please be sure to update ACORN with your new email address as soon as you receive it to avoid missing important information.

3. Enrol in courses

Start Dates

  • Graduate classes begin September 3, 2024 (except for optional Summer Workshops and mandatory August Intensives).
  • For MFC students, program begins on Tuesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 4 on campus. Haliburton Field Camp (FOR3001) from September 5-12.

Degree Requirements

Review Degree Requirements to understand the progression of your degree. The School of Graduate Studies Calendar outlines the many policies and procedures at the University of Toronto that you are expected to be aware of.

You will be automatically enrolled in required courses except for option studios and electives; you are responsible for ensuring you are in the right courses each semester. Course descriptions for elective courses will be posted in August.

Course Exemptions

Course exemptions for Master of Architecture (MARC) students are due June 17, 2024. Late requests will not be accepted.

4. Manage your finances

No matter your finances, take the time to plan out all your expenses and set a budget to ensure you have adequate funding available for the upcoming year.

Tuition Fees

In mid-July, you will be able to view your student fees through ACORN. The first installment of your academic tuition fee is due in August 23, 2024. Fee deferral requests must also be submitted through ACORN by the same deadline.

Become familiar with graduate fees and payment information outlined on the SGS website, and review Tuition & Fees for more information about fee deferral eligibility, making tuition payments, and more.

International students from certain countries may consider pre-paying the first year of tuition fees to facilitate their study permit application. Learn more about pre-paying your first year of tuition fees.

Provincial Funding

If you are an Ontario resident looking for a government loan, start early and apply now for the Ontario Student Assistance Plan (OSAP).

If you are an out-of-province student, check with your local funding agency about relevant deadlines.

Teaching Assistantships & Work-Study Opportunities

Teaching Assistantship (TA) positions at Daniels are posted under Employment Opportunities. Eligibility depends on a combination of your experience and academic background. The deadline to apply is typically the beginning of June. Please continue to check the website for updates.

Work Study opportunities are available through the Career Centre. Applications for Fall/Winter positions are posted at the end of August.

Graduate Awards

The Daniels Faculty offers graduate awards upon admission, during your studies, and upon graduation. Most of these awards do not require applications. If there are any awards that require applications, a call for applications will be sent via email.

5. Find your housing

We recommend that students arrive in Toronto by mid-August, at the latest, so that they have the opportunity to settle-in and attend Orientation activities before classes begin. If you are an international student, please look at the pre-arrival guide and next steps from the Centre for International Experience.

If you require assistance with housing, the University of Toronto Housing Services provides helpful accommodation resources for you to explore. You can choose to live at home, in a University of Toronto residence, or take advantage of the many housing options near campus. Please look into housing options early as some options have deadlines by which you must apply.

If you have been offered a place in residence, make sure you accept your residence offer and pay your deposit by the stated deadline. The Faculty has a limited number of spaces at Grad House. If you are interested in being considered for one of these spaces, please contact us at graduate@daniels.utoronto.ca. These spaces are offered on a first come, first served basis.
